About Roy
I am a food safety executive with over 30 years of experience across multinationals, academia, and regulatory authorities. Throughout my career, my focus has remained consistent: protecting consumers and safeguarding integrity in everything an organisation does.
Food safety, to me, is fundamentally about public health and trust. If a company cannot clearly explain its decisions and fails the “red face test”, it should reconsider those decisions. I believe in the principle of “do no harm” and in leaving the world better than we found it. This mindset has guided my leadership across global organisations and industry initiatives.
What I stand for
Integrity is non-negotiable. If something is not right, it must be challenged. If an organisation cannot transparently justify its decisions, change is required.
Food safety issues are not “quality issues”. They are business-critical challenges. They directly impact brand trust, enterprise value, and long-term sustainability. Boards must therefore embed food safety structurally, through clear reporting lines, meaningful KPIs, and deep insight into enterprise food safety risk.
My approach is consumer-focused, structurally embedded, and strategically aligned with total cost of quality and enterprise protection.
What I have achieved
As Chief Food Safety Officer at Mondelēz International, I led global, multidisciplinary teams covering microbiology, toxicology, allergens, and physical hazards. I was responsible for food safety across the entire value chain, from innovation and manufacturing to incident management and enterprise risk governance.
Prior to this, I held senior roles at EFSA, Unilever, and S.C. Johnson, where I integrated regulation, safety, and supply chain risk management within complex international environments.
Today, as Managing Partner of FoodsafERM, I operate as a high-level strategic advisor. I advise on the future design of food safety management, crisis and complex incident response, and the evaluation of enterprise food safety risk.
Within corporate and board roles, including the Steering Committee of the Global Food Safety Initiative, I have contributed to the development of global standards and governance frameworks that position food safety where it belongs: in the boardroom.
